Broadcast Mode FAQ

On the Web App, yes — the link is tied to your account, not to the individual recording, so it's the same stable link across every broadcast you start. Share it once, in a recurring invite or on a permanent sign, and it keeps working.

On iPhone/iPad, Android, Mac and Windows, not yet — each broadcast still gets a new, one-time room link, and it stops working once you stop that recording. You'll need to re-share the link every time you start a new broadcast on those platforms.

How do I share a room with a room full of people?​

Copy the room URL and send it however you like — Messages, Email, Slack, a chat channel. On the Web App you can also click the QR code button next to the link: it shows a scannable code for the same URL, so people can point their phone at your screen instead of retyping a room id.

Can I put the QR code on a slide or a printed handout?​

Yes. Open the QR code and click Download PNG — it saves at print resolution (1024px or larger), which is big enough for a title slide, a poster by the door, or a paper handout.

On the Web App the room belongs to your account rather than to one recording, so the code stays the same every time you broadcast. Print it once and it still works at your next talk.

Is the QR code available on iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows?​

Not yet — the QR code button is currently a Web App feature. On the other platforms you share the copied room link, which works exactly the same for viewers.

Can viewers listen to the translation instead of reading it?​

Yes. Every viewer can tap Speech mode at the bottom of the room page, and Whisperr reads each translation aloud as soon as it's finalized. It's a per-viewer choice — some of the audience can listen while the rest just read.

Why is Speech mode off when I open the room?​

Browsers only allow a page to play audio after the person interacts with it, so Speech mode has to start off — the tap that turns it on doubles as that interaction. The audio plays through the viewer's own device, so headphones are worth it in a quiet room.

Can viewers choose their own translation language?​

Yes. The speaker picks a default target language when they create the room, and each viewer can switch to a different language from the Translation language menu at the top of the page — up to 5 additional languages per room on top of the speaker's default, so up to 6 language options total. Viewers who don't switch see the speaker's default target language.

Languages the room is already broadcasting appear first with a green dot and switch over on the speaker's very next line. A new language, if the room hasn't reached its 6-language limit yet, has to be produced first, so you'll see Preparing your language… for a moment before lines start arriving.

The choice is per-viewer: it doesn't change what the speaker set or what anyone else is reading. It's also saved in your browser, so reloading the page — or reconnecting after a drop — puts you back in the same language.

If I turn on Speech mode, which language do I hear?​

Whichever language you selected in the Translation language menu. Change it while Speech mode is on and the spoken audio follows on the next line — no need to toggle anything.

Can I change the voice that reads the translation?​

Yes, in the Voice control that appears above the transcript once Speech mode is on:

  • Auto (the default) matches the voice to whoever is actually speaking, using the acoustic profile Whisperr measures for each speaker. In a panel or a Q&A, different speakers keep different voices.
  • Male and Female pin one fixed narrator for the whole room, if you'd rather have a predictable voice than one that changes with the speaker.

The setting is per-viewer and remembered in your browser.

Can I make the spoken translation faster or slower?​

Yes. The Speaking speed slider next to the Voice control runs from 0.5x to 3.0x and defaults to 1.7x. Spoken translation at 1.0x is slower than live speech, so the audio drifts behind a fast talker — 1.7x keeps you close to real time while staying easy to follow. Like the voice, it's per-viewer and saved in your browser.

What languages does the speaker need to select?​

Two languages: a source language (what the speaker will be speaking) and a target language (the default viewers get). For example, presenting in English to a mostly Japanese audience, the speaker selects English as the source and Japanese as the target. Viewers who want something other than Japanese can switch for themselves in the room.

Do I need a separate room for each language?​

You don't need to for the audience side — a single room already supports up to 6 languages at once (the speaker's default plus 5 more that viewers can switch to individually). Create a separate room only if you need more than 6 languages, have a second speaker, need a different source language, or want a completely separate audience/link.

Do viewers need an account or to install anything?​

No. Viewers just open the link in any browser. No account, no app, no sign-up.

How many viewers can join a room?​

Broadcast Mode supports 1-to-n broadcasting. There's no hard limit on viewers for typical use cases.

Does the speaker need to keep the app open?​

Yes. The speaker needs to keep the Whisperr app open and recording for the room to stay active. Closing the app or stopping the recording ends the session for all viewers.
