Broadcast Mode on iPhone, iPad and Android

This page covers running a broadcast as a speaker from the Whisperr mobile apps. The iPhone, iPad and Android apps share the same recording screen, so the steps below are the same on all three. For how Broadcast Mode works and the viewer experience, see the Broadcast Mode overview.

Broadcast as a Speaker​

  1. Open the Whisperr app — iPhone and iPad · Android

  2. Select your source language (the language you'll be speaking) and target language (the language viewers land on) in the bar at the bottom

  1. Keep Microphone selected as the audio source so Whisperr captures your voice

  2. Tap the record button to start. A row of three controls appears above the transcript — Speak Aloud, Share Link and View Settings

  3. Tap Share Link and turn the switch on. Whisperr asks the server to open a room, and the moment it answers, the link and a copy button appear right below the switch

  4. Tap copy and share the link with your viewers — they open it in any browser to follow your live transcription and translation

The room stays active as long as you're recording. Tap the record button again to stop.

The three-control row is part of the recording screen: before you start, the screen shows only the audio-source picker, so there's nothing to turn on in advance. This is deliberate — the switch asks the running session to open a room over its existing connection, which is also why you can flip Share Link on partway through a talk and hand out the link then. Everything you've already said stays in your transcript; viewers simply join from that point.

Until the room is ready, a short caption sits where the link will be; the link replaces it as soon as the server confirms the room. Nothing is shown before that, so the link you copy is always a room a viewer can actually open.

What Your Viewers See​

Anyone who opens the room link gets this page in their browser — no app, no account, no sign-up. Most of your audience will be on a phone, where it looks like this, with each line of transcription and translation appearing as you speak.

They pick their own language. The room opens on the target language you chose, but each viewer can open the Translation language menu at the top of the page and switch to any of Whisperr's supported languages. The ones your room is already broadcasting are listed first with a green dot and switch over on your next line; anything else is produced on request, so they'll briefly see Preparing your language… first. One room and one link therefore cover an audience with a dozen languages in it — there's no need for a separate room per language.

They can listen instead of reading. Tapping Speech mode at the bottom of the page turns the button blue and reveals the speech controls at the top, and Whisperr reads each translation aloud on their own device as soon as it's finalized — in whichever language they selected.

They choose the voice and the pace. Voice defaults to Auto, which matches the reading voice to whoever is actually talking — useful when you take questions from the floor. Male and Female pin one fixed narrator instead. Speaking speed runs from 0.5x to 3.0x and defaults to 1.7x, fast enough to keep the audio near real time.

Speech mode starts off for everyone — that first tap doubles as the gesture browsers require before they'll play audio. Every one of these settings is per-viewer, so part of your audience can listen in Spanish while the rest read in Hindi. More detail in the viewer experience.

Common Issues​

The three-control row only exists while you're recording. Start the recording first, then tap Share Link.

Sharing needs the server connection that streams your audio for transcription, and two setups don't have one: on-device transcription, which never leaves your phone, and the Meeting Bot source, which joins a call instead of listening to your microphone. Switch the source to Microphone with server transcription and start a new recording.

Viewers see nothing​

Make sure you're still recording — the room is live only during an active recording. Viewers who opened the link before you started should reload it.

Wrong translation language for viewers​

The target language you picked before recording is only the default. A viewer who wants something else can open the Translation language menu at the top of the room page and switch for themselves — no need for you to restart. To change the default everyone lands on, stop, change the target language, and start a new recording.
