Echo Cancellation in the Web App

In the Web App, Echo Cancellation is off by default — the opposite of the mobile apps. The browser's echo canceller can dull speech the transcriber would otherwise receive clean, so Whisperr leaves it off and lets you switch it on when you actually need it.

How to Change Echo Cancellation in the Web App​

  1. Open the Whisperr Web App and sign in
  2. Click the ••• options button in the recording bar
  3. Toggle Echo cancellation on or off
  4. Click Start and begin speaking

Your choice is remembered in the browser, so the next session starts the same way.

The toggle is disabled while a recording is running — the constraint is fixed at the moment the browser hands over the microphone. Stop the recording to change it, then start again.

When to Turn It On​

Turn Echo Cancellation on when your speakers are playing something the mic can hear and you don't want it transcribed — above all, Whisperr's own spoken translations from Speech Mode while you're on a laptop speaker.

Leave it off for the cleanest possible transcription: a headset, a quiet room, or a good external microphone.

Screen Capture Is Handled Separately​

If you record with Screen Capture or Mic + Screen, that branch of the audio isn't affected by this toggle — a tab or system share carries the output mix, and no browser constraint can exclude Whisperr's own playback from it.

Instead, Whisperr mutes just the screen branch while a translation is audible, then resumes. In Mic + Screen the microphone branch stays live throughout, so you talking over the translation is still captured.

Common Issues (Web App)​

The same sentence keeps getting translated over and over​

Whisperr's spoken translation is reaching your microphone. Turn Echo cancellation on, or use headphones.

The toggle is greyed out​

A recording is in progress. Stop it, change the setting, then start again.

Transcription got less accurate after I turned it on​

Acoustic echo cancellation is a filter and costs a little detail. If you're on headphones you don't need it — turn it back off.

Whisperr isn't picking up a video playing on my computer​

The microphone path isn't the right tool for that in a browser. Switch the source to Screen Capture and select the tab with Share audio enabled.
