Two Way Conversation on the Web App

This page covers holding a two-way conversation in the Whisperr Web App. For what the feature does and how it works, see the Two Way Conversation overview.

The Web App starts on two-way, so unless you changed it earlier there's nothing to turn on.

Set Up a Two-Way Conversation​

  1. Go to app.whisperr.co

  2. Click either language name to open its picker and set the two languages you'll be speaking — start typing to search the list

  3. Check the arrow icon between them — it should be the double arrow ⇄. Click it to cycle ⇄ → → → ← → ⇄

  1. Keep Microphone Audio selected as the source so Whisperr listens to the room

  2. Click Start recording and let the two of you talk

Each line appears in the language it was spoken in, with the translation underneath. A change of speaker, or a change of spoken language, always starts a new line.

The language pickers and the direction arrow are disabled while recording — set them before you press record.

Options Worth Considering​

Open Options under the recording controls:

  • Speak Aloud — Whisperr reads each translation out loud as it's confirmed, in the language that translation is in, so your side is spoken in their language and theirs in yours. The reading voice is matched to whoever is talking, so in a two-person conversation the two voices stay distinct. Use headphones, or the mic will pick up Whisperr speaking and transcribe it back.
  • Echo cancellation — the browser's acoustic echo cancellation on the microphone. Off by default; worth turning on if you're playing the translation out of your laptop speakers instead of headphones.
  • Utter chunking speed — how often Whisperr starts a new transcript line. Lower is more frequent. A change of speaker or spoken language starts a new line regardless of this setting.
  • Show speaker button — adds a play icon on each line so you can replay any single line out loud, handy when one sentence didn't land.

Reading It From Both Sides of a Table​

The Web App is the easiest way to put a two-way conversation on a big screen — open it on a laptop between you, or cast it to a monitor or projector so a small group can follow the back-and-forth at once. The Both / Transcription / Translation tabs above the transcript control whether each line shows the original, the translation, or both stacked.

Common Issues​

Only one of the two languages is being transcribed​

The direction is on → or ← rather than ⇄. Stop the recording, click the arrow icon until it shows the double arrow, and start again.

The second language comes out as nonsense in the first language​

Check that both language pickers are set to the two languages actually being spoken. Whisperr only listens for those two — anything else gets forced into the closest of them.

Whisperr transcribes its own spoken translation​

That's Speak Aloud playing out of your speakers and back into your microphone. Switch to headphones, or turn Echo cancellation on.

Nothing is transcribed at all​

Check the browser's microphone permission for app.whisperr.co, and that the right input device is selected in your system sound settings. Two-way also needs an internet connection — it runs on Whisperr's cloud speech engine.
