Upload a File
Upload a file turns a recording you already have into a transcript. Upload a meeting, a lecture, an interview, a podcast or a video, and Whisperr writes down everything that was said. Pick a language to translate into, and every line comes with its translation.
How It Works
- Open Upload a file in the sidebar of the Whisperr Web App
- Choose an audio or video file, the languages spoken in it, and a language to translate into if you want one
- Click Transcribe. Whisperr works on the file in the background, usually much faster than the recording's own length
- Open the transcript. It's saved as a conversation in your account, with every line next to its translation

Free Minutes, Subscriptions and Credit
Every account gets minutes for uploads each month:
| Account | Included each month | Renews |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 20 minutes | On the 1st of each month (UTC) |
| Subscribed | 10 hours | On the day of the month your subscription started |
When a file is longer than what you have left:
- With prepaid credit, the rest of the file is paid from your credit at $1.20 per hour of audio (2 cents a minute), translation included. You're charged for the file's actual length, and only once. A file that fails costs nothing.
- Without credit, Whisperr transcribes the file up to the minutes you have left and stops there. The page tells you how much of the file will be transcribed before you upload it.
Once your minutes are used up and you have no credit, new uploads wait until your minutes renew or you add credit. You can add credit from the Add credit button on the Upload a file page.
Limits
- Length: up to 299 minutes (just under 5 hours) per file
- Size: up to 500 MB per file
- Formats: common audio and video files, such as MP3, M4A, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, MP4 and WebM. Only the audio is used
- One file at a time. While a file is transcribing, wait for it to finish before uploading the next one
- Languages: more than 60, the same list as live transcription. Pick up to 10 that are spoken in the file, or leave it on Detect automatically
How Long It Takes
Transcription runs much faster than the recording plays. As a rough guide, with translation on:
| Recording | Ready in about |
|---|---|
| 10 minutes | 35 seconds |
| 30 minutes | 1.5 minutes |
| 2 hours | 6.5 minutes |
| 5 hours | 15 minutes |
Without a translation it's about twice as fast. The page shows an estimate while the file is transcribing, and you can leave the page in the meantime.

FAQ
Is the audio file kept?
No. The file is streamed to our speech recognition provider for transcription and deleted there once the transcript is saved. Whisperr keeps only the transcript and translation, in your account, where you can delete it like any other conversation.
Can a file have more than one language in it?
Yes. Pick every language spoken in it under Spoken languages (up to 10). If you're not sure, leave it on Detect automatically.
Can I translate into more than one language?
One translation language per upload. To get a second language, upload the file again with a different Translate to language.
What happens to minutes I don't use?
They don't carry over. Your included minutes reset when your month renews.
Can I use it from code?
Yes. Developers can upload files with an API key from the Developer Console. Uploads with a Developer Console key are paid per minute from your prepaid credit and don't use your monthly minutes.
