Common Errors
This guide covers the most frequently encountered issues and how to fix them.
No Transcription Appearing
1. Microphone Permission Disabled
Whisperr needs microphone access to capture audio. If permission is denied, no transcription will appear.
iOS:
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and enable Whisperr
Mac:
- Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and enable Whisperr
Web App / Chrome Extension:
- Click the lock icon in your browser's address bar and set Microphone to Allow
- Or go to Chrome Settings > Privacy and Security > Site Settings > Microphone and allow
app.whisperr.co
2. No Internet Connection
Whisperr requires a stable internet connection to transcribe and translate speech.
- Check your WiFi or mobile data connection
- Try opening a website to confirm you're online
- If on a VPN, try disconnecting and reconnecting
3. Audio Not Reaching Whisperr
If you can't hear the speaker clearly, Whisperr can't either.
- Move closer to the speaker — stay within 1–2 meters for built-in microphones
- Increase the volume if using microphone capture with external speakers
- Check your microphone input — make sure the correct mic is selected (especially on Mac: System Settings > Sound > Input)
Floating Subtitles Not Showing
1. Picture in Picture Not Enabled (iOS)
- Go to Settings > General > Picture in Picture and make sure it's turned on
2. Floating Subtitles Toggle Not Enabled
- Open the Whisperr app and check that the floating subtitles toggle is turned on
3. App Restrictions (iOS)
Some apps like Zoom, Teams, and Google Meet do not allow floating subtitles due to privacy restrictions. See Online Meetings for alternative methods.
For Amazon Prime and Netflix, start playing the video first, then enable floating subtitles.
Meeting Bot Not Joining
1. Invalid Meeting Link
- Make sure you pasted the full, valid meeting link (Zoom, Teams, or Google Meet)
- Check that the link hasn't expired
2. Bot Stuck in Waiting Room
- The meeting host needs to admit the Whisperr bot from the waiting room
- Ask the host to check the participants list and let the bot in
3. Connection Issues
- Check your internet connection
- Stop and restart the meeting bot session
Browser Tab Capture Not Working
1. Wrong Capture Type Selected
- Make sure you selected a browser tab, not a window or entire screen
- Audio can only be captured from a browser tab due to privacy restrictions
2. No Audio From the Tab
- Check that the tab you selected is actually playing audio
- Make sure the tab is not muted (check the speaker icon on the tab)
3. Browser Not Supported
- Browser tab capture works in Chrome and Edge only
- Safari and Firefox are not supported for tab audio capture
Translation Quality Issues
1. Inaccurate Transcription
- Move closer to the speaker or use an external microphone
- Reduce background noise — turn off TVs, fans, or music
- Use browser tab capture or floating subtitles instead of microphone capture for better audio quality
2. Wrong Language Detected
- Whisperr auto-detects between your two selected languages — make sure both source and target languages are set correctly
