Videos and Entertainment

Watch videos, movies, and live streams with real-time transcription and translation using Whisperr. Whether you're watching YouTube, Netflix, TikTok, or a live stream, Whisperr captures the audio and displays translated subtitles on your device.

How It Works

  1. Play a video or stream on your device — YouTube, Netflix, TikTok, Instagram, or any media
  2. Whisperr captures the audio and transcribes it in real time
  3. Translated subtitles appear on screen so you can follow along in your preferred language

Use Case Scenarios

1. Floating Subtitles on iOS

Watch content in any app while Whisperr overlays translated subtitles directly on top of the video. No need to switch apps.

  • Recommended setup: Open the Whisperr iOS app, start transcription, enable Floating Subtitles, then switch to your video app
  • Pros: Subtitles stay on screen while you watch — no app switching needed
  • Cons: Some apps have restrictions (see below). Must start floating subtitles after the video begins playing on some platforms

2. Browser Tab Capture (Chrome Extension / Web App)

Watch videos in a Chrome browser tab and let Whisperr capture the audio directly from the tab for the best quality subtitles.

  • Recommended setup: Open the video in a Chrome tab, then use the Chrome Extension or Web App to capture the tab audio. Split the screen to see subtitles side by side
  • Pros: Best audio quality — digital capture with no background noise. Works with any website
  • Cons: Must watch in Chrome browser, not in a native app. Must use a desktop device

3. Microphone Capture

Play the video on speakers and let Whisperr capture the audio through your device's microphone. Useful when watching on a TV or projector.

  • Recommended setup: Play video on a TV or external speaker, place your phone or laptop running Whisperr nearby
  • Pros: Works with any video source — TV, projector, cinema, or any device
  • Cons: Background noise can reduce accuracy. Audio quality depends on speaker volume and distance

Tips for Best Results

  • Use browser tab capture or Floating Subtitles — they pick up the best audio quality
  • Use Floating Subtitles on iOS for the best viewing experience — subtitles appear directly over the video
  • Change font size in Whisperr settings to improve readability during long viewing sessions
  • Reduce background noise when using microphone capture — turn off other audio sources

Restrictions

  • iOS: Cannot display floating subtitles over Zoom, Teams, or Google Meet due to privacy restrictions. Some streaming apps (Amazon Prime, Netflix) require starting the video before enabling floating subtitles.
  • Chrome Extension / Web App: Can capture audio from a browser tab only — cannot capture audio from the entire screen, a window, or native desktop apps.
