AirPods Live Translation Not Working Well? Here's Why, and a Better Option

You bought the AirPods Pro 3, or finally updated your AirPods Pro 2 / AirPods 4 with ANC, for the Live Translation feature. 1. The popup appears and immediately closes.
2. It tells you to download a language you've already downloaded. Twice.

Why it isn't working, and what to try first

Walk through this list in order. Most users get unstuck on one of the first few items.

• Update everything. iOS 26 or later, latest AirPods firmware (Settings → Bluetooth → tap (i) next to your AirPods → Firmware Version), and the latest Translate app. To force a firmware update, put the AirPods in the case, plug the case in to charge, and keep it near your iPhone for 30 minutes.
