Malay sits so close to Indonesian that the two are easily confused, so recognition has to key on the loanwords and everyday vocabulary that set it apart. Recognition likewise covers the Malay of Malaysia, Brunei, and Singapore.
The transcript shows each side in its own writing system: kanji together with hiragana and katakana for Japanese, the Latin alphabet (Rumi) for Malay.
