How to translate a phone call

All you need is the call on speaker — Whisperr runs on the same phone.

  1. 1

    Put the call on speaker

Make or answer the call as usual — a regular phone number, WhatsApp, LINE, or FaceTime — and switch it to speakerphone. Can’t use the speaker? Take the call in WhatsApp Web or another browser-based calling app and capture the tab instead (see below).

  2. 2

Start Whisperr on the same phone

Open Whisperr and turn Echo Cancellation off in Settings, so it hears the caller through the speaker. Pick your two languages, set the arrow between them to ⇄ two-way, keep Microphone as the source, and press record.

  3. 3

    Talk normally and read along

Whisperr hears you and the caller, transcribes each line in the language it was spoken in, and shows the translation underneath in about 0.2 seconds.

Whisperr review

“I love how easy Whisperr is to use and how it accurately understands and translates text and speech across different languages. It's so effective that even in scenarios where other tools might fail, Whisperr performs perfectly. Additionally, the ability to select languages for translation directly on a phone is fantastic. This feature helps us translate church services, ensuring everyone understands without missing anything important. The initial setup was straightforward, making it smooth to start using immediately.”

Top-Notch Speech Recognition and Flashcard-Style Translations for Fast Study

“Whisperr's speech recognition and translation quality are both top-notch, and better than similar tools I've tried so far. Beyond that, as a Japanese learner, I especially like how Whisperr displays each sentence and its translation almost like flashcards, with a text-to-speech button for each one. That setup makes studying feel fast and efficient, and it's easy to review sentence by sentence.”

Worth hundreds of thousands of yen

“The same performance as other conversation translation apps. Those charge by the minute, but this one is apparently a one-time purchase, so the value for money is outstanding. Compared with about five similar apps, this one is the best on both performance and price. I wonder whether it was made by a Japanese developer??”

Built for calls

Understand the call, and be understood

A live interpreter for the calls you already make — no special number, no three-way interpreter line.

Both sides on one screen

Two-way mode listens for both of your languages at once, so nobody presses a button between turns. Each line appears in the language it was spoken in, with the translation underneath.

Fast enough for conversation

Translation appears in about 0.2 seconds, so you can answer while the caller is still on the line instead of asking them to repeat.

Far more languages

From Spanish, Japanese, and Hindi to Urdu, Persian, and Bengali — including some that built-in call translators don’t cover.

Send them a link

Turn on Broadcast Mode and text the caller the room link. They read your words in their own language in any browser, or tap Speech mode to hear them — no app or sign-up.

No extra device

Whisperr runs on the phone you’re calling from. Calling from a computer instead? The Mac, Windows, and Web apps capture the call directly.

Nothing changes for the caller

No bot joins, no extra line, no special number. The caller just talks as usual while you read along.

Can’t use the speaker? Take the call in a browser

When the call runs in a browser tab or a desktop app, Whisperr captures its audio directly — no speaker needed, and headphones work.

Take the call in WhatsApp Web or another browser-based calling app — Google Voice, Microsoft Teams, or Messenger — then open the Whisperr Web App in a second tab, choose Screen Capture, and share the call’s tab with its audio. Choose Mic + Screen instead to add your own voice to the transcript as well.

On a Mac or Windows PC you can also use a desktop calling app — WhatsApp, LINE, FaceTime on a Mac, or any other. Choose System audio as the source in the Whisperr desktop app: Whisperr reads the computer’s audio output directly, so the caller’s voice arrives clean.

Whisperr vs your phone’s built-in call translation

Some recent Samsung, Pixel, and iPhone models can translate calls on the device. Here’s where each one fits.

Built-in call translation is handy when your phone model and both of your languages are on the maker’s supported list — and it has one real advantage: the other person hears your words spoken in their language inside the call. Whisperr works beyond that list: any phone, any calling app, far more languages, and a running transcript you can read as the call goes.

Phone call translation FAQ

Can Whisperr translate a phone call in real time?+
Yes. Put the call on speaker and run Whisperr in two-way mode on the same phone. It transcribes and translates both you and the caller in about 0.2 seconds.
Do I need a second device?+
No. Put the call on speaker and run Whisperr on the same phone — turn Echo Cancellation off in Settings first, so it hears the caller through the speaker. If you can’t use the speaker, take the call in WhatsApp Web or another browser-based calling app and capture its tab with the Web App; on a Mac or Windows PC, the desktop app can also capture a call with System audio.
Does it work with WhatsApp, LINE, FaceTime, and landlines?+
Yes. The speakerphone setup works for any call you can hear, and the other person can be on any phone — even a landline. Without a speaker, take WhatsApp calls in WhatsApp Web and capture the tab, or use System audio in the desktop app for WhatsApp or LINE on a computer, or FaceTime on a Mac.
Can the other person read or hear my translation?+
Yes. Turn on Broadcast Mode and send them the room link: they pick their language and read your words live in any browser, or tap Speech mode to hear them. Nothing to install on their side.
Will the other person know I’m using it?+
Nothing joins the call — no bot, no extra line. Whisperr only listens to the speakerphone or your computer’s audio, so unless you send them a Broadcast link, the call sounds the same to them.
How do I get the most accurate translation on speakerphone?+
Keep the call volume up and find a quiet spot, and make sure Echo Cancellation is off in Whisperr’s Settings — with it on, Whisperr filters the phone’s own speaker out, and that is where the caller’s voice is. Set both language pickers to the two languages actually being spoken, and leave a short pause between turns so each line splits cleanly.
Does it need an internet connection?+
Yes. Two-way translation runs on Whisperr’s cloud speech engine on every platform, so the device running Whisperr needs to be online.
Is it free?+
You can start free — the Free plan limits session length, which is enough to test your setup before a real call. Unlimited real-time use is on a low flat-fee plan with no per-minute metering, so a long call never costs more than a short one.
