Live transcription

Read what is being said, while it is being said.

Whisperr turns speech into text on your own phone as people talk, at a reception desk, a pharmacy counter or a waiting-room window. Because it is live transcription, you can follow the conversation as it happens, instead of asking for it to be repeated.

It is automatic captioning, so it does not label speakers by name and it can miss words in noise. Check names, numbers and anything important. For important appointments, ask for a qualified interpreter or CART, and keep Whisperr as the backup.

A woman at a hospital reception desk holds up a phone running Whisperr and reads the receptionist's words as live text on the screen.

Also for translation

Travelling or living abroad? Understand the people around you.

The same screen can translate. Set the language being spoken and the language you want to read, choose Both, and Whisperr shows the live transcript with its translation underneath, so you can follow a vendor, a ticket clerk or a host in another country as they speak.

A man at a fruit market in another country reads a vendor's Spanish on his phone, with the English translation shown underneath in Whisperr.

Whisperr review

“I love how easy Whisperr is to use and how it accurately understands and translates text and speech across different languages. It's so effective that even in scenarios where other tools might fail, Whisperr performs perfectly. Additionally, the ability to select languages for translation directly on a phone is fantastic. “Whisperr's speech recognition and translation quality are both top-notch, and better than similar tools I've tried so far. Built for everyday listening

Read the conversation as it happens

Whisperr turns speech from the room, a call tab or a video into live text. It is a captioning aid you carry on your own device, not a replacement for a qualified interpreter or CART.

Captions on your own device

Nothing to install for the other person and no booking ahead. Open Whisperr, press record, and the speech appears as text.

Works in the room

Face-to-face talk, a family table, a shop counter, a lecture hall. Whisperr listens through the microphone and captions what it hears.

Captions plus translation

When the speaker uses another language, read the original words and your own language at the same time. 60+ languages on desktop and the web.

New line when the speaker changes

A change of speaker starts a new line, which helps you follow who is talking. Whisperr does not put speaker names on the lines, so say who you are addressing.

Captions over your videos

Floating Subtitles can put live captions over a video or stream, even one with no captions of its own.

Big-screen captions

Open the Web App on a laptop between you, or cast it to a monitor or projector so a small group can read along.

Try captions on your next conversation

Test it in your own room first. Free to try, with limits that are stated up front.

Live captions for Deaf and hard of hearing people: FAQ

Is there a live captions app for Deaf and hard of hearing people?+
Whisperr turns speech into live text on your phone, tablet, computer or browser, in the room or from a meeting or video. It is an automatic captioning aid with limits, listed on this page.
Can I use it for speech to text in conversations?+
Yes. Choose Microphone, set the language being spoken and press record. Put the device close to the speaker. A change of speaker starts a new line, though speakers are not named.
Can I get real time captions for meetings?+
Yes. On a computer, capture the meeting tab (Chrome or Edge, with Share tab audio ticked) or use System audio in the desktop app. The Meeting Bot can also join a Zoom, Teams or Google Meet call. Free sessions are limited to 2 minutes, so a full meeting needs a paid plan.
Is this the same as CART or a sign-language interpreter?+
No. Whisperr is automatic captioning, not CART, not a certified sign-language interpreter, and not captioning for legal, medical or court settings. It does not guarantee ADA or other accessibility-law compliance. For important appointments you may be entitled to a qualified interpreter or CART, and Whisperr can be a backup.
How accurate are the captions?+
It depends on the conditions. Noise, accents, overlapping speakers and distance from the microphone all lower accuracy, so check names, numbers and anything important.
Is it free?+
Free is a trial: sessions are limited to 2 minutes on the web, so it will not cover a meeting, class or full day. Paid plans are a flat fee with unlimited use.
