Viki

Translate K-Dramas and C-Dramas on Viki in Real Time

Is your language not subtitled yet? Whisperr translates the Korean or Chinese audio live on your phone or in your browser.

  1. 1

Open a Viki episode in a new tab

    Leave it paused for now.

  2. 2

    Pick your languages

Set the language being spoken and the one you want to read. Tab capture is already selected.

  3. 3

Press Record, then pick that tab

Choose the tab in the picker, tick Share tab audio and press play. The translation appears here as people speak.

  4. 4

Pop the subtitles out over the video

Opens the subtitles in a small window that stays on top, so you can watch in the other tab and still read along.

When the tab picker opens, tick Share tab audio. Without it there is no sound to translate.

On Mac or Windows, you can also choose System audio in the Whisperr desktop app. It hears anything your computer plays.

Translate Viki on your phone

Use the Whisperr app on iPhone or Android, on the same phone as the video.

  1. 1

    Turn on Floating Subtitles

In the Whisperr app, pick the language being spoken and the one you want to read, select Floating Subtitles, then press Record (Start on Android).

  2. 2

    Play Viki

Switch to the Viki app and press play. Captions float over the video where the app allows its audio to be captured.

  3. 3

    No captions? Use the microphone

Play the video on speaker, choose the microphone in Whisperr and turn Echo Cancellation off in Settings. Whisperr then hears the sound from your phone’s speaker. A quiet room gives better results.

Translate Viki in your web browser

Viki has no desktop app, so on a computer use Viki in Chrome with the Whisperr Web App.

  1. 1

Play the video in a Chrome tab

Open viki.com in Chrome and start your episode.

  2. 2

Open the Whisperr Web App in another tab

Go to whisperr.co/app in the same browser and choose your languages.

  3. 3

    Capture the video’s tab

Press Record, choose Screen Capture, pick the video’s tab and tick Share tab audio. It must be a tab, not a window or your whole screen.

  4. 4

    Keep the translation on top

Click Floating subtitles and the translation stays above the video. If the captured tab stays silent, use System audio in the Whisperr desktop app instead.

Top-Notch Speech Recognition and Flashcard-Style Translations for Fast Study

“Whisperr's speech recognition and translation quality are both top-notch, and better than similar tools I've tried so far. Beyond that, as a Japanese learner, I especially like how Whisperr displays each sentence and its translation almost like flashcards, with a text-to-speech button for each one. That setup makes studying feel fast and efficient, and it's easy to review sentence by sentence.”

Viki translation FAQ

Is there a Viki app for my computer?+
Viki lists apps for phones, tablets and TVs, not for Windows or Mac. On a computer, watch in Chrome and capture the tab, or choose System audio in the Whisperr desktop app.
Does it replace Viki’s subtitles?+
No. Where Viki has subtitles in your language, use them. Whisperr is a live machine translation for when it does not.
Does it read on-screen text or signs?+
No. Whisperr translates what is spoken in the audio. It does not read on-screen text, and songs or loud effects can lower accuracy.
Is it free?+
You can try it free, but the free plan limits session length, so it will not cover a full episode or match. Paid plans are a flat fee with unlimited use and no per-minute or per-language metering.
