Open the stream on YouTube or Twitch
Open the stream in the new tab, live or an archive, and leave it playing.

Pick your languages
Set the language the streamer speaks and the language you want to read. Tab capture is already selected.

Press Record, then pick that tab
Choose the stream's tab in the picker and tick Share tab audio. Translated subtitles appear here as the VTuber talks.

Pop the subtitles out over the video
Opens the subtitles in a small window that stays on top, so you can watch in the other tab and still read along.
When the tab picker opens, tick Share tab audio — without it there is no sound to translate.
On Mac or Windows, choose System audio in the Whisperr desktop app. It captures anything playing on the computer, including other apps.
Which way should you watch?
All three capture the stream audio on your own device, so the platform, the language and the paywall never matter. The difference is where the audio comes from and where the subtitles show up.
Watching on a TV or a console instead? Any of the three can listen through your microphone rather than capturing audio directly — lower fidelity than digital capture, but it works with hardware Whisperr cannot run on.

Whisperr and fan translation are not the same thing
Clip channels and translation communities are the heart of international VTuber fandom, and a machine cannot replace them: fan translators localize jokes, catch references, and add the context that makes a moment land. Nothing here is a substitute for that work.
What Whisperr covers is the gap in between — the hours of stream that never get clipped, the streamers whose audience is too small for a dedicated translator, and the live moment itself, before anyone has had time to subtitle it. Use it to follow the stream as it airs, and keep watching the clips for the parts worth rewatching.
If you want a fully free option, Google Translate and Papago handle short phrases well, but they translate one utterance at a time and have no live-stream capture, floating subtitles, or continuous flow — you would be pausing the stream to type. Whisperr has a free tier, and unlimited real-time use is a flat annual fee with no per-minute metering.
Are you the VTuber? Caption your own stream instead
This page is the viewer side. Captioning your own stream is a different setup, and it lives on its own page.
If you are the one streaming, none of the above applies to you — your viewers should not have to run anything to understand you. Whisperr Broadcast Mode gives your stream a transparent overlay URL that you drop into OBS as a browser source, and your speech is captioned and translated on screen for everyone watching, on every platform you stream to at once.
The overlay also parks a small QR code in a corner of the stream, so a fan who wants a language other than the burned-in one can scan it and read along on their own phone. The OBS page walks through the whole setup, including every overlay option.

On your phone — floating subtitles
Open the Whisperr iOS or Android app, start transcription, turn on Floating Subtitles, then switch back to YouTube or Twitch. Translated captions float on top of the stream while you keep scrolling chat and reading superchats as normal.

The Whisperr app for Mac and Windows captures your system audio, so it hears the stream exactly as it plays — clean digital audio with no room noise, which matters when a stream mixes game audio, BGM and voice.
