Watch Chinese Live Streams with Live Subtitles

Bilibili and Douyin lives are fast, unscripted and almost never translated. Whisperr listens to the Mandarin audio and shows translated subtitles as the streamer talks, in 60+ languages on desktop and the web.

  1. 1

    Open a Chinese live

Pick a live on Bilibili in the new tab, or open a Douyin live in another tab, and leave it playing.

  2. 2

    Check your languages

Chinese to English is already selected. Change the target if you would rather read another language.

  3. 3

Press Record, then pick that tab

Choose the stream tab in the picker and tick Share tab audio. Translated subtitles appear here as the streamer talks.

  4. 4

Pop the subtitles out over the video

Opens the subtitles in a small window that stays on top, so you can watch in the other tab and still read along.

When the tab picker opens, tick Share tab audio — without it there is no sound to translate.

On Mac or Windows, choose System audio in the Whisperr desktop app. It captures anything playing on the computer, including desktop apps.

Watch on a computer

Two ways on Mac, Windows or any computer with Chrome or Edge.

  1. 1

    Chrome or Edge: tab capture

Open the Bilibili or Douyin live in a Chrome or Edge tab, start Whisperr on the Web App, and choose that tab with Share tab audio ticked. This gives clean digital audio with no room noise.

  2. 2

Mac or Windows app: System audio

Watching in another browser or a desktop app? Choose System audio in the Whisperr desktop app. It captures whatever your computer is playing.

Watch on iPhone and Android

Watching in the Bilibili or Douyin app? Put the translation on top of the video.

  1. 1

    Turn on Floating Subtitles

In the Whisperr app, pick the language the streamer speaks and the one you want to read, then turn on Floating Subtitles and grant the overlay permission once.

  2. 2

    Open the stream

Switch to the Bilibili or Douyin app and press play. Captions float over the video where the app allows its audio to be captured. If yours does not, use the microphone step below.

  3. 3

    Any device: microphone

Play the stream on speaker and let Whisperr listen. Turn Echo Cancellation off in Settings when the sound comes from the same device. Background noise lowers accuracy.

What to expect

Whisperr does not connect to any streaming platform. It translates the sound you are already hearing, so the same steps work for Bilibili, Douyin and any other stream you can play on your computer or phone.

Subtitles are machine translation of fast, casual speech. Background music, game sound and several people talking at once lower accuracy, and internet slang and names are sometimes wrong.

Watch any live video — translated

YouTube Live, TikTok Live, Twitch, Kick, Discord and more: follow any stream in your own language, with Floating Subtitles on top of what you're watching.

  • Turn on Floating Subtitles and the translation floats on top of whatever app you're watching
  • Whisperr listens through the microphone — turn Echo Cancellation off to translate audio playing on the same phone
  • Works on iPhone and Android

Simple to start

All you need is a phone or a computer.

  1. 1

Top-Notch Speech Recognition and Flashcard-Style Translations for Fast Study

“Whisperr's speech recognition and translation quality are both top-notch, and better than similar tools I've tried so far. Beyond that, as a Japanese learner, I especially like how Whisperr displays each sentence and its translation almost like flashcards, with a text-to-speech button for each one. That setup makes studying feel fast and efficient, and it's easy to review sentence by sentence.”

Built for Chinese streams

Follow the stream, not just the danmaku

Chat scrolls past in Chinese and the streamer talks faster than any fan sub. Whisperr reads the audio as it plays, so you can follow along live.

Bilibili, Douyin and more

Gaming, VTubers, music, shopping lives and talk shows. Whisperr translates what you hear, so the stream needs no captions.

Live, while they talk

Subtitles appear while the streamer is still speaking, so you can follow the moment instead of waiting for a clip with subtitles.

Subtitles beside the video

Split the screen so translated text sits next to the stream, or pop the subtitles out into a floating window.

Chinese to English and more

Read Mandarin in English, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Spanish and many more: 60+ languages on desktop and the web.

Floating subtitles on your phone

Watching in a mobile app? Floating Subtitles overlay translated captions where the app allows its audio to be captured.

Fast, casual speech

Lives are unscripted and quick. Accuracy is best when one person speaks at a time and the music or game sound is low.

Chinese live stream translation FAQ

Can I watch a Bilibili live with English subtitles?+
Yes. Open the live in Chrome or Edge and capture that tab with Whisperr. Translated English subtitles appear while the streamer talks.
Does it work on Douyin lives?+
Whisperr translates the audio playing on your device, so it works on any live you can watch and hear, whichever site or app it is on.
Does it translate the danmaku comments?+
No. Whisperr translates speech, not on-screen text. It shows what the streamer says, not the scrolling comments.
Can I use it in the mobile apps?+
On iPhone and Android, Floating Subtitles overlay translated captions on the video where the app allows its audio to be captured. If it does not, play the stream on speaker and let Whisperr listen through the microphone.
Can I read it in a language other than English?+
Yes. Pick Chinese as the spoken language and any of 60+ languages on desktop and the web as the one you read.
Is it free?+
You can try it for free, but free sessions are limited in length. Paid plans are a flat fee with unlimited real-time use and no per-minute or per-language metering.
